As the rainy season is at its end and winter is about to start, we need to be prepared for it. The cold air may feel good for many people and winter is the most preferred season for traveling. But when it comes to hair, winter is not always good. The low temperature can be harsh for our hairs and there are more possibilities to dry out hair. Dry hair ends up becoming frizzy and which brings series of problems. It becomes hard to style and maintain.
Knowing all these, you shouldn’t get worried about it. There are few factors that create such a situation and luckily there are measures to prevent it so that you can enjoy this winter.
Dry hair is unmanageable most of the time which makes it difficult to handle. Here are some things which you should try out:
1. Trim it off:
It’s always better to start the treatment with fresh hair. The tips of the hair with split ends and rough texture look dull. Avoiding this can end up increasing the split ends. Dry hair is hard to control so the best way to start is by trimming the ends. This will cut the unhealthy hair and will let you focus on the healthier section and on your scalp. This way the damage will not spread on the entire hair length.
2. Skip everyday wash:
There are people who like to wash their hair every day. Most people with short hair follow this on an everyday basis. But if you want to avoid dryness in the hair, you need to stop this. Shampoo takes off the dirt and cleans your scalp, But what most people don’t know is, it also takes off essential oils that make your hair dry. Already cold temperature in winter dries your scalp, and applying shampoo regularly makes it even rougher. Skipping shampoo makes your hair oily but that gets balanced in the winter season. For avoiding dryness use mild and moisturizing shampoo which can nourish your scalp when you wash your hair.
3. Cold showers and deep conditioning:
It’s obvious to feel good with warm water in winter. But warm water increases dry conditions on the scalp. So you should pay attention to the water temperature. If you are someone who just can’t pour cold water on hair, then use luke warm water and end your wash with a mug of cold water to seal the moisture in the hair. Another important thing after washing hair is conditioning. Conditioners are best to restore the hydration and moisture in the hair. The application of the conditioner is very good and should be done at least once a week.
4. Hot oil massage:
It’s always a moment of relief when you apply hot oil to your scalp. Dryness in the scalp is a problem that catches attention and in winter it increases a lot. Hot oil treatment can be done by everyone but is preferred more for one who has extra dryness. It balances out the dryness and gives enough moisture to your scalp and entire hair length. Some of the most preferred oils for hot oil treatment are coconut, rosemary, jojoba, almond oil. You can also mix all of it and heat it up for few seconds. Give a nice massage for few minutes before one night or can also keep for an hour.
5. Use a homemade hair mask:
Nothing can beat hair masks in winter. It conditions deeply and gives complete nourishment to your hair. There are many DIY hair masks which you can try with simple ingredients.
