How I met your Mother (HIMYM) was a sitcom that followed Ted Mosby, who narrated the story of how he met their mother to his children, Luke and Penny. It takes us through the lives of Ted and his friends Lily, Marshal, Robin, and Barney from the years 2005-2014. As the sitcom came to an end, rumours about a show called How I Met Your Father started making rounds in the HIMYM fandom.
They said that there would be a show centered around a woman who narrates the story of how she met his father. CBS decided to order a pilot for How I met your Father in 2013 with Greta Gerwig and Meg Ryan. But it was cancelled later. Now, Hulu has picked up from where CBS left off and ordered a spin-off starring Hillary Duff. The Lizzie McGuire star revealed this on her instagram account via a video post.
The series will follow the life of Sophie, who narrates how she met her husband to her son. It’s set in 2021 and will follow a similar premise as its predecessor. Sophie and her friends meet at a bar and try to figure out their next steps in life. They try to navigate the dating path in an era where the dating pool is vast, and the options are limitless. Hulu’s president, Craig Erwich, said that How I met your Mother was one of the most innovative comedy shows on television and believes that show writers Isaac and Elizabeth have created a spectacular show that honors the original and maintains its originality.
The prequel’s show writers Carter and Craig will return to the sequel as executive producers and Hillary Duff herself. Fans are expecting the show to be launched sometime this year as the show’s events take place at the beginning of 2021.
