A couple of days back, the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) released a nearly 4000-page report that reflects upon their research for the past 8 years. For starters, it’s nothing short of a big wake-up call for the entire world, it’s not time to embrace the fact that climate change is real. It’s time to make a move!
Totally outright
The scientists broke all the wrong beliefs that we had until now. It puts all the blame for warming the atmosphere, land, and ocean on us. It’s nothing but the human influence at fault, and that’s completely unequivocal.
Eye-opening points! It’s not just the headline that should cause worry but every minute detail inside it should make you worry, to name a few:
* The past 5 years have been the hottest in the history of mankind.
* The sea level has tripled since 1901-1971
* The global temperature has risen by 1.1 degrees every year since the pre-industrial era.
* 40 billion tons of carbon gets emitted every year, and until now 2400 Billion tons have been emitted.
Some ramifications
The clear ramifications for these changes are quite clear before everybody of us, the recent heatwaves in Greece or floods in China. Some consequences like rising sea level, melting of glaciers, heavy rainfall, are inevitable now! This indicates that human has done a great amount to damage to the mother nature and there’s no going back from here.
Ray of hope
Still, scientists believe that we’re not doomed. If we collectively try to cut carbon emissions by half until 2030 and fully by the mid of this century, we can make it. We can reverse the warming and make Earth a little cooler! The saving grace could be emerging technologies like carbon capture, absorption, etc. But accomplishing full carbon neutrality by 2050 is a tall order.
Wrapping up
For laymen, the report is a sign that we are responsible for everything, and now it’s our responsibility to remediate things if we want to see our further generations otherwise, it’s too late! What do you think, is it time or we should act now?
