Being socially distant from people was an unimaginable concept till last year. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused many changes to our functioning society, social distancing being one of them. Though it is a necessity for us to coexist with this dangerous virus, social distancing has transformed the ways of human interpersonal interaction. The lack of social interaction has led to a mental health crisis across all countries.
Who is an Introvert?
There are two kinds of people based on social interaction skills – extroverts and introverts. The COVID-19 lockdown has affected both people very differently. On the one hand, psychologists say that extroverts are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression. On the other hand, introverts are perceiving it as a break from the outside world. So, does social distancing affect introverts differently?
An Introvert’s Take On Lockdown
Introverts are the kind of people who prefer to seclude themselves from the surrounding. They have a strong personal bond with their inner selves and they cope with their lives through their inner strength.
Social distancing has been a boon for them. People are happily spending time with their families and learning new skills. They are already skilled in self-isolation. Social distancing has just made it more socially acceptable!
As time passes by, people are getting used to this isolation. Society is coming up with new ideas to shift their social life indoors.
According to an MIT study on introverts, respondents expressed relief when asked about the recent lockdown and its resultant social distancing norms. They said that their lives are peaceful and the pandemic might have been a much-needed detox. Though others are getting used to self-isolation, they are trying to innovate themselves into new beings!
Safe to say; introverts’ are enjoying lockdown indeed.
